GOOP: Read

I'm not sure how many of you have signed up to random ramblings that are the newsletter's called GOOP produced by Gwyneth Paltrow, however if you have then you would most certainly know that Thursdays are GOOP day, well I think its Friday here in Australia. I certainly do not recommend them, but I do get a certain level of enjoyment from her attempts at blessing us lower persons with her knowledge.

I have decided to do my own GOOP inspired by her last weeks installment and pass on a selection of some of my favorite novels

2. In the skin of a lion by Michael Ondaatje
3. Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
4. The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell
5. Anna Karenin by Leo Tolstoy
6. The Seagull by Anton Checkov (although this is actually a play but one of my all time favorites)
7. Playing with the grown ups by Sophie Dahl (because a little light reading is always fun)

Happy Australia Day, whilst there is pressure within Australia to change the date of Australia Day so that it is not the celebration of the invasion of this large island, I would say for most Aussies its a chance to get together for a bbq, drink beer and listen to the triple J hottest 100 whilst trying to stay cool from the hot summer sun.

This editorial is from Russh Issue 19. The model is Cassie Gardner. I really like how she has that sun-bleached, slightly 80's hair with the re-growth showing through. The pink lipstick looks great and the clothes give me a sort of 90's LA vibe, although I've never been to LA I've been kindof referencing this ed all summer with the denim, leather, black, gold and whites.

Leopard Print Coat

I have become the proud owner of a gorgeous leopard print coat (faux of course) thanks to ebay. As I type it is on its way in the mail and hopefully will arrive on Tuesday. Right now in the land of OZ it is actually summer and a winter coat is last thing I could possibly want to wear right now. So I thought i'd share some of my inspiration for when I can finally wear it. Of course Kate Moss owns one...

Vintage Pod Chair

I have to say there is nothing I love more than going rummaging around in second hand stores. I am the ultimate op-shopper, thifter, vintage shopper (what ever you want to call it) addict. Of course when you are like this it can be ultra disheartening when you rummage and leave the store empty handed. This has been happening to me a fair bit recently
until the other day I found this baby...

The ultimate 19080's pod chair in brand new condition, complete with its own matching foot stool. I was over the moon. Its super comfy...I usually avoid the furniture section of all the second hand stores because In my opinion they're usually waaaaay too overpriced. This baby was a bargain as it hadn't been priced and the girl couldn't be bothered waiting for the pricing lady....It was definitely a great way to break my spell of finding nothing.

I'm not usually the biggest fan of Lily Donaldson, however I am a huge fan of her street style. This outfit taken backstage is absolutely wonderful. I love it with the motor boots and furry vest...

Of course Rumi from fashion toast did it first, to absolute perfection, with the ultimate in slouchy sheer singlet and divine necklace perfect for the little zippered leather skirt...

I have been in love with zippered skirts since Jen Brill modelled this one for Sophomore. I think I am going to have to find one as part of my spring shopping list. I wonder if they sell them in Aus

Oversized Blazers

This is a picture taken by The Satorialist during New York Fashion week. I don't know what it is about this outfit that I love. In a way everything is wrong,the jacket is oversized, the skirt doesn't fit to a tee and the t-shirt doesn't really seem anything special. But there is something about it all put together that I absolutely love. Maybe its the fact she reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw or its her undone-ness or her fabulous hair, but I think she looks great.

Tallulah's Top 5 Winter Purchases

I must admit I am stupidly excited over the imminent arrival of summer (although spring has just arrived), however I thought i would do a quick recap on what I consider to be my best 5 purchases for the winter season. There were a few more contenders for the Top 5 but unfortunately I could only choose 5.

The first has to be this black leather jacket from Bardot, bought off ebay brand new for a steal. Its got that buttery,worn feel thats makes wearing like putting on a second skin. The bottom also zips off to turn it into a cropped jacket. I haven't worn it like this yet but I think possibly on cooler summer nights I will.

The second is this striped long woolen cardigan from Just Jeans which I practically lived in. It was my go to when I wanted to be comfortable but not tracksuit level comfortable.

The third is a striped long-sleeved tee dress from Supre. I admit I have a slight obsession with striped clothing and this dress was only one of 3 that I actually bought thiswinter. I loved wearing it with tights or leggings and boots.

These little babies are a pair of Minnetonka which I also bought off ebay. They are so cute with their long fringing and fun to wear for those days where you have to run around doing errands all day. I'm definitely contemplating getting more styles.

Finally these leather tan boots were definitely my best bargain. I really wanted a pair of tan boots and ended up getting these for $2 from a second hand store. They have hardly been worn and are perfect in their "Vintage style".

When I go shopping I try to buy the best possible quality item that I can afford. I bought this jean jacket about 7 years ago and spent about a month searching for the best fitting one I could. I probably haven't worn it for the last 4 years, but i dug it out of my wardrobe recently and have to say I am so happy at myself for putting all that effort into my purchase. It still is as good as I remember with its perfect fit and the right amount of worn-in-ness. This really re-affirms my theory, especially when I consider the cardigan i bought recently at a cheap store which has fallen apart after 3 washes.

Tallulah's Guide to Perfect Present Purchasing

In my family we don't just go for the one present purchases, instead we prefer to buy a number of smaller presents. My sister and I developed what we consider the Art of the Perfect Present Purchasing: Keep, Useful and Disposable. An example is the following items I have bought for my sisters upcoming birthday:

Keep
This is something to treasure forever (well you hope). For my sister i have a lovely ring which i hope she'll love. Of course the type of present depends on the person your buying for. Recently the Keep present for my friend was a mix CD of our favorite songs.

Useful
Something to use, in this case a pair of leopard print tights. In the past it might have been glasses, gift voucher, book, beauty stuff, and finally...

Disposable
Something completely disposable such as flowers. This is often the most fun to buy because it can be a joke present or chocolates whatever.
